ARTEM LAGUTA’S MANAGER RAFAL LEWICKI HOPES SOME MENTAL COACHING WILL BOOST THE RUSSIAN’S HOPES OF FIM SPEEDWAY GRAND PRIX SUCCESS IN 2020.
Artem Laguta’s manager Rafal Lewicki hopes some mental coaching will boost the Russian’s hopes of FIM Speedway Grand Prix success in 2020.
Laguta finished 11th in last season’s SGP World Championship, but received a wild card to retain his spot on the sport’s biggest stage.
He showed huge potential when he finished sixth in SGP 2018, reaching three finals that season, as well as one in Malilla last year.
But Lewicki admits Laguta is seeking to deliver the goods more consistently.
He said: “Last year he would win one race with a 30-metre advantage and then be 30 metres behind in the next.
“He has worked hard during the whole winter to improve. Hopefully it will help and bring better results in the Grand Prix in the future.
“He has changed a few things – mainly in the mental way he does things, but not only that. It’s everything. You can’t just put it down to what happens in the meeting or what happens at home. It all needs to come together to make it a success.
“One of the things is concentration. You can also improve athletically and mentally and get to know yourself better than before.”
Lewicki hopes some mental coaching will bring the best out of Laguta. He said: “A lot of top sportsmen work with mental trainers and he has done that this winter. Hopefully this will be the few percent he has been missing in the past.
“He hasn’t struggled at all in the leagues. For so many seasons now we have had very good results in the Ekstraliga and he has done very well in Sweden. He was second in the averages in the Elitserien last year. It shows there is a lot of potential. He just needs to keep developing in the Grand Prix.
“He has discovered a lot of it is in the head. He just needs everything well set up in his head to keep his performances steady.”
